There's only one guy I know who has shoes like that. Leave it to an Italian to have the eye to take this photo: Vincenzo Pinto/AFP/Getty Images published in today's Guardian.

They're handmade. Guess how much of your money in the collection basket that takes up? Are your shoes handmade?
Ah, you assume I give in the basket...
AND you assume that the Pope paid for those handmade shoes! There is always the possibility that the shoemaker GAVE those shoes to the Pope as part of his tithes or as a token of gratitude for all the blessings God has given him. However, if you really wish to be cynical, think about the ADVERTISING VALUE the Pope has! That would be worth any amount of money to the shoemaker.
Wow, "Anonymous" You sound pretty angry. Actually my post made no assumptions about who bought the shoes. My post was focused on the Italian photographer who had the eye to shoot a photo of the shoes. PLease do not presume to start angry conversations with other commenters on my blog. I welcome comments to my posts. And I would especially welcome helpful comments. Peace to you.
